On April 26th, Bro. John T. Johnston Sr. was installed in the chair of King Solomon as Right Worshipful Master of Lodge Kilwinning 1754, District Grand Lodge of Newfoundland and Labrador, Grand Lodge of Antient Free & Accepted Masons of Scotland, in St. John's, Newfoundland. In attendance was his son, Bro John Taylor-Johnston of Victoria Lodge #16, in Sherbrooke, Quebec.
Bro. Johnston Sr. was installed by Brother W. Rex Cotter, Right Worshipful District Grand Master, assisted by M.W.Bro. Donald W. Newell, Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Newfoundland. On June 9th, following in his footsteps, Bro. Johnston Jr, will be installed in the chair of King Solomon in St. Francis Lodge #15, in Richmond, Quebec. Bro. Johnston Sr. will attend.
"My father called me one day and asked me if I had any friends in Sherbrooke. Curious I asked why. He replied that he knew of an organization that would make me more friends than I could ever hope to make. He was right!" Bro. Johnston Jr. was initiated in Victoria Lodge #16 in January 2000. At his initiation, R.W.Bro. Richard Chagnon, now D.D.G.M. for the District of St. Francis, invited him to visit St. Francis Lodge #15, in Richmond, Quebec. Within a year, Bro. Johnston joined St. Francis and began going through the chairs of both lodges. "My hope was to become W.M. of St. Francis at the same time as my friend W.Bro. Raymond Roy became Master of Victoria #16 so we could share the 150th anniversary celebrations of both our lodges together. It is fitting because we were initiated together in January 2000 too."
